Steve and Julie Scott, owners of Discount Picture Framing in Lawrenceville, Coorgia, were faced with a common summertime problem - excessive heat. CASE STUDY The 501 School District in Topeka, Kansas found itself with a challenge where it was necessary to consider two unique perspectives. The school campus has two greenhouses that are built completely from gloss. The students use these greenhouses to study biology and plant life. The hot Kansas summers made the working environment inside the greenhouses unbearable for the students. Also, the constant glare from the sun made it very difficult for the students to work and study, Window film was an obvious solution to correct these problems, but how would it affect the health of the plants? The answer was SunTek's Spectrally Selective product line, Ultra-Vision (ULVDS). ULVDS 50% allows much of the sun's visible light to pass through the glass, thereby preserving the plants. However, it also provides the heat rejection and glare reduction needed to keep the students comfortable. The product also provides 99% UV rejection and is virtually undetectable on the glass. CASE STUDY John and Tammi McCarraher, owners of a Cold Stone Creamery franchise In Dartmouth. Massachusetts. were faced with a unique problem - melting merchandise. Their ice cream cakes and "to-go" pints of ice cream were being stored in a display freezer located in the front of their store. The large, all glass storefront was being hit by direct sunlight throughout the majority of the day, causing the cakes and ice cream to melt before they were sold.
